Individual Therapy

I offer individual therapy to young people and adults for a range of psychological difficulties, major life events and transitions.

Individual therapy is available to anyone from the age of 14. I also offer parent consultations for helping with issues with younger children. Sessions can occur online for those living across the UK and abroad, (or just when it is preferred) or in person in my therapy rooms for those living locally.

I believe that seeing a psychologist should be as accessible and readily available as going to the dentist or hairdressers. I offer timely psychological support when you need it most, and as I am an independent psychologist, you do not need a referral from your GP – you just get in touch.

What will happen in sessions?

During individual therapy you can expect me to offer you empathy and respect, and to listen carefully to your situation.

The initial appointment is an assessment and offers you the chance to describe your situation and what you are seeking from therapy, allowing me a deeper understanding of what will help. Attending this appointment does not commit either of us to ongoing therapy sessions but allows us to consider the best way forward to achieve your goals.

Individual therapy sessions involve a range of psychological techniques and approaches. I use an integrated approach and therapy is unique to each individual. However, therapy sessions can involve learning practical tools and coping strategies to manage difficult emotions, thoughts and behaviours, developing insight and awareness into unhelpful psychological habits, and processing experiences to relieve distress and promote healing.

The number of sessions required varies from person to person and takes into account their unique difficulties and goals for therapy. I am experienced in short, medium and long-term therapeutic approaches to offer you the correct service for your individual situation.

Is it confidential?

Confidentiality and trust is central to the professional therapeutic relationship, whatever your age or situation. Everything shared in sessions is therefore confidential and will not be passed to anyone else without your permission. The only two exceptions to this will be explained to you in our first meeting, and refer to risk of harm (you or someone else) and the use of anonymous information within professional supervision.

What about cost?

I am very aware that private psychological therapy can be expensive. We will therefore consider this during the initial assessment and planning process and I will advise you on the most cost-effective option for your situation.

Sessions with me may be covered by your employer’s Employee Assistance Programme or by health insurance policies. If you require this I would advise checking before booking a session.
